Merson reveals his one great worry for Defoe at Rangers

first_imgPundit Paul Merson wonders whether Rangers will be able to provide Jermain Defoe with adequate service to enable him to score goalsThe 36-year-old striker has joined Rangers from Bournemouth on an 18-month loan deal to team-up with former England team-mate Steven Gerrard, who now coaches the team.Together, the duo plan to end Celtic’s seven-season winning run in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers currently tied with the Hoops at the top of the standings. But, while reflecting on Defoe’s loan move, Merson did express some concerns for the Englishman.Rangers is still behind Celtic: John Hartson Manuel R. Medina – September 3, 2019 According to the former Celtic player, there’s still a massive gap between his ex-club and Rangers in the Scottish Premier League.“For me, he is a one out of two,” Merson told Sky Sports’ The Debate.“Give him two chances and he’ll score one. He doesn’t work on five or six chances. He is top draw.“But my only worry would be can they [Rangers] provide him? With them little balls down the side… I think he’ll score bundles of goals.”Defoe has previously played for West Ham, Tottenham, Portsmouth and Sunderland in the Premier League and is the seventh highest scorer in the competition with 162 goals in 496 games.last_img read more
