first_img Court seeks volunteers to serve as tour guides The Florida Supreme Court is seeking volunteers to serve as tour guides at the court.“Tour volunteers fill the important role of educating our many visitors, mostly students, about the judicial branch of government and its critical role of ensuring our freedoms as Americans,” said Chief Justice Barbara Pariente. “Our volunteers accomplish this through a variety of educational materials and activities including building tours, oral histories, and/or mock oral arguments.”Since the inception of the court’s tour program, volunteers have been the keystone of the program’s success, providing judicial education to over 8,000 visitors each year, according to the Supreme Court Historical Society. The court will hold a “kick-off” reception for the 2006 Supreme Court Tour Program November 8, from 9-10 a.m., in the Supreme Court library.“This will include a brief introduction to the program, as well as an opportunity to meet the tour coordinators and other volunteers,” Pariente said, adding those who attend the kick-off won’t have to make any immediate commitment. “I hope you will be inspired to join in this worthwhile endeavor and attend the training session which will take place in February.”For more information about serving as a tour volunteer contact Tricia Knox in the Supreme Court Library at (850) 921-9446 or [email protected] Court seeks volunteers to serve as tour guidescenter_img November 1, 2005 Regular Newslast_img read more
