97inch Ectaco Jetbook Color Reader ships January 499 for you 350 for

first_imgGrayscale eReaders offer crisp, highly readable displays in a featherweight package. They don’t, obviously, pack the same visual punch as a full color tablet. Devices using color E Ink displays — like the ones Mirasol promised for many moons — have been slow to arrive, though they’re starting to show up and offer the best of both worlds. If the six inch Kyobo model was a bit too pint-sized for your tastes, maybe the new 9.7-inch Ectaco jetBook Color will be more to your liking. It’s based on the Hanvon C920, which utilizes a 1600 x 1200 Triton color E Ink display that’s capable of interpreting two-finger touch gestures. Wi-Fi support is built in, and there’s a stylus onboard for those who want to take advantage of the jetBook’s handwriting recognition abilities to leave notes in the digital margins of their books. The jetBook can handle loads of different file formats, including EPUB, PDF, MOBI, DOC, XLS, and HTML — JPG and PNG photos are also supported, as are MP3, WAV, and WMA audio files. Opera’s web browser is included, as is a text-to-speech engine, and there’s a microSD expansion to hold your ever-expanding library.Loads of educational content is included on the jetBook, like illustrated dictionaries, an SAT course, scientific and graphing calculators, crossword puzzles, interactive periodic tablet, and even a translator app with support for 180 languages and speech recognition. When the jetBook begins shipping on January 15th, 2012, it’ll sell for $499 to the general public. Schools, however, will get a 30% break and score what looks like a fantastic learning tool for just $350. A lot of money, sure, but it’s a heck of a lot less than a pile of textbooks costs.More at Ubergizmo and Ectacolast_img read more
