ABC News(MOBILE, Ala.) — Tropical Storm Gordon is bearing down on the Gulf Coast, prompting states of emergency in Mississippi, Louisiana and parts of Alabama. The storm, bringing gusty winds, heavy rain and potential flooding, may strengthen into a hurricane by the time it makes landfall near the Mississippi and Alabama border Tuesday night.Hurricane Warnings remain in effect for coastal Mississippi and Alabama.Heavy rain and inland flooding are major concerns for Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Arkansas as the storm moves north over the next two days. Some areas may see up to a foot of rain — especially near the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, as well as inland parts of Mississippi.Storm surge is also a concern, potentially reaching as high as 5 feet.“Nobody should panic but everybody should take this seriously,” Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said at a news conference Monday. The Louisiana National Guard has activated approximately 200 soldiers and airmen, with an additional 150 guardsmen authorized to assist. The Alabama National Guard also has guardsmen on standby and ready to respond if needed.“Approximately 50 Mississippi National Guardsmen are along the Gulf Coast in preparation for possible support in response to Tropical Storm Gordon,” the Mississippi National Guard said.Once her Mississippi home was secure, Lisa Taranto-Merten brought her children to help fill sandbags for others in the community on Tuesday.“We all kind of jumped in and helped each other,” she told ABC News. The storm has prompted casinos to close in Mississippi.“Gordon is a tight, fast-moving tropical storm,” Alabama Emergency Management Agency Director Brian Hastings said in a statement Tuesday. “If you live in the coastal counties, especially in surge and flood prone areas, it is imperative that you get to a safe place by early afternoon and stay there through Wednesday morning.”Later this week, the remnants of Gordon is forecast merge with a cold front in the Midwest, bringing more rain and potentially more flooding to Arkansas and Missouri.Copyright © 2018, ABC Radio. The National Commission for Child Protection has reported 54-year-old convicted pedophile Pujiono Cahyo Widianto, better known as Syekh Puji, to the police for allegedly marrying a 7-year-old girl.“We have reported Syekh Puji to the Central Java Police in mid-March. He already committed a crime in 2008, and has repeated it again now,” claimed commission chairman Arist Merdeka Sirait on Thursday.Arist said that the Central Java Police should arrest Syekh Puji immediately. “Seven of Syekh Puji’s own relatives have taken issue with his actions and reported them to the police,” he said. “They witnessed his unregistered marriage [to the child] in 2018.”In 2009, Syekh Puji, who heads a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) in Semarang, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment for marrying a 12-year-old, an offense that carries a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rp 300 million (US$ 18,000) as stipulated in the 2002 Child Protection Law.Arist said that because Syekh Puji was a repeat offender he should be sentenced to a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and chemical castration as stipulated in Law No. 35/2014 on Child Protection.Central Java Police spokesman Gr. Comm. Iskandar F. Sutisna confirmed that the police had received the report.“So far we have already questioned six witnesses. The medical examination result shows that there are no signs of sexual violence against the underaged girl in question. Our investigators are still conducting an investigation to determine if there are signs of a crime having taken place,” he said.Separately, Central Java Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning Agency official Saptiwi Mumpuni said the agency could not take any action against Syekh Puji because it was still awaiting evidence for the police.“As far as we know, the child is still attending school. According to the information that we have received, the child has not suffered from any violence,” she said. (dpk)Topics :
National Geographic gave prominent press to last month’s theory of living dust (see 08/10/2007, bullet 1). Criticisms were mild; scientists were quoted who thought this claim raises interesting questions about the definition of life. Tsytovich’s ideas were described by Mihaly Horanyi (U of Colorado) as “amazing.” He said, “This is a very original, very intelligent paper that will trigger a lot of debate.”The article has the three typical hallmarks of evolutionary storytelling (see 12/22/2003):1. We don’t understand what we are looking at.2. It must have something to do with evolution.3. It therefore opens up our imaginations for more storytelling. You know that Darwinism is on its last legs when stories this stupid get good press. No religious myth could be sillier. They may as well claim a Lava Lamp is alive (09/07/2003). This is the quality of science news you get from reporters raised on Star Trek. Where is The Amazing Randi now? His crusade against pseudoscience knows no bounds when the subject is tainted by religious faith, but when the Darwinists trot out their incredibly dumb and unsubstantiated stories, he takes on the 3-monkey lotus position (02/20/2007). Then you catch him over there shmoozing with the culprits and telling them how wise and clever they are (02/20/2007). The new Darwin Party strategy seems to be to make evolutionary claims dumber and dumber, so that National Gee–a Gaffe [hic] and the other evo-hacks can claim, after the Darwin idol falls, “It should have been obvious we were only kidding. The joke is on you for taking us seriously.”(Visited 9 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Shortly after he was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump issued an order freezing federal regulations still in the rulemaking process and delaying for 60 days beyond their effective date those that recently took effect.Among the regulations put on hold are two of particular concern to livestock organizations: the Farm Fair Practices Rules and the organic livestock and poultry rule. The National Pork Producers Council wants the rules, issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to be rescinded. One of the regulations in the Farm Fair Practices Rules — also known as the GIPSA Rule (after USDA’s Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration) — would broaden the scope of the Packers and Stockyards Act (PSA) of 1921 related to the use of “unfair, unjustly discriminatory or deceptive practices” and “undue or unreasonable preferences or advantages.”Specifically, it would deem such actions inherent violations of federal law even if they didn’t harm competition or cause competitive injury, prerequisites for winning PSA cases. NPPC and other livestock groups are concerned that the regulation would restrict the buying and selling of livestock, lead to consolidation of the livestock industry and increase consumer prices for meat.It was set to take effect Feb. 21. The organic rule adds animal welfare standards to the nation’s organic food production law. It would strictly dictate how organic producers must raise livestock and poultry, including during transport and slaughter, and specify, without scientific justification, which common practices are allowed and prohibited in organic livestock and poultry production, thereby eliminating producers’ discretion to make sound decisions about animal care. It also would establish unreasonable indoor and outdoor space requirements for animals.NPPC, which in July submitted comments in opposition to the regulation, said the welfare standards are not based on science and are outside the scope of the organic food production law, which limits consideration of livestock as organic to feeding and medication practices. Additionally, the organization pointed out, animal welfare is not unique to organic production. Some of the standards even could jeopardize animal and public health, said NPPC in its comments to USDA. The provision on outdoor access, for example, is in conflict with best management practices to prevent swine diseases that pose a threat to animal and human health. The regulation was set to take effect March 20.
dana oshiro Zookz founder Hugh Marshall launched the site in the belief that the Antigua-based company is not subject to US copyright law until those within the space reach a profit of $21 million dollars. Nevertheless, it’s unlikely that this is the case as it would mean that the WTO would allow Antigua-based websites to simply give away files or sell them at rock bottom prices in order to stay below the limit. While the actual terms of the WTO’s sanction is blurry, John Healey of the LA Times suggests that the annual value limit is likely to represent the loss to US industries rather than the profit yielded. As well, the fact that the site is accessible by global audiences outside of Antigua makes this a particularly suspicious venture. While the site’s 1,500 movies and 50,000 songs represent a relatively small catalogue, it appears that for now, for the price of a Netflix monthly account, Zookz users can access unlimited downloads. Obviously this is tempting. Dubious legality aside, and regardless of how you perceive the RIAA and MPAA, please remember that in this case neither starving musicians nor billionaire record labels receive payment for the downloaded works. If you’re still curious about the service, you can register at Zookz.com. Related Posts 9 Books That Make Perfect Gifts for Industry Ex… Tags:#music#web As reported in the LA Times’ technology blog, the launch of Antigua-based media download site Zookz has raised the ire of the US trade commission as well as the RIAA and MPAA. However, according to the company, Zookz is permitted by the World Trade Organization under a loophole copyright sanction. You read that correctly. The US trade commission and the RIAA / MPAA is challenging Zookz the pirate with the WTO in its corner. Imagine the cage match.Zookz is offering unlimited movie or music downloads for $10 per month (or $18 for both). The company’s low prices can be attributed to the fact that it is not paying licensing fees to copyright owners. The justification as to why Zookz can ignore US claims to intellectual copyrights is a long and complicated one. It seems the WTO ruled with Antigua after a long series of battles over the fact that US restrictions on online gambling were found to violate free trade agreements. Despite the decision, no new forms of offshore online betting were allowed in the US. In retaliation, Antigua received permission from the WTO to suspend US copyright obligations up to a value of $21 million dollars annually. 4 Keys to a Kid-Safe App 5 Outdoor Activities for Beating Office Burnout 12 Unique Gifts for the Hard-to-Shop-for People…

Zico insists Barcelona ace Messi doesn’t need World Cup to be legendby Carlos Volcano10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveZico insists Barcelona ace Leo Messi doesn’t need to win the World Cup to be considered an all-time great.Despite his enormous success with Barcelona, the biggest prize in international football has eluded Messi so far, with Argentina only reaching the final in one of the four World Cups the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has appeared at.Zico told Omnisport: “Football is a collective sport and many times it doesn’t depend on you playing well. It depends if the team is playing well.”Sometimes you decide games, but you can’t decide a competition.”So, Messi’s merit is not undone because he hasn’t won a World Cup. “[Johan] Cruyff didn’t win any World Cup and was one of the great players of history and he will always be. And many others the same. “It is too much me, and not us. If you take a young man he doesn’t ask about your career, he asks: ‘Have you been the best in the world? Have you been the best of this, or that?’.”Everything is based on being the best. Football is a collective game, not and individual game.” About the authorCarlos VolcanoShare the loveHave your say
