Huge Turnout for Moroccos General Strike Unions Say

Rabat  –  The 24-hour general strike, observed Wednesday by the main unions, was a “great success, as turnout has exceeded 84 pc”, the Moroccan Labour Union (UMT), the Democratic Labour Confederation (CDT), the General Union of Morocco’s Workers (UGTM) and the Democratic Labour Federation (FDT) said.According to reports and preliminary results, “the turnout reached over 84 pc, which is beyond all expectations”, the country’s main unions underlined in a joint statement.The strike was observed in all regions, provinces and cities of Morocco and in all professional and public administrations and services, the statement added. The five unions said the government is to be held responsible of the results of its intransigence and lack of dialogue in terms of social tensions that could lead the country to instability.With MAP
