Chinas J20 stealth plane goes live in first test flight

first_imgWhilst Stealth technology was likely developed back in Germany during World War II, in modern times the US is the only known nation to deploy fully operational stealth technology. Various aircraft such as the F-117 Nighthawk, the B-2 Spirit “Stealth Bomber”, the F-22 Raptor, and the F-35 Lightning II all featuring said technology.Now it seems China has caught up with the US and has conducted its first test flight of the J-20 stealth fighter. We are not sure if the Chinese were trying to keep this secret or not, but the cat was let out the bag after 15 minutes of film footage appeared on several Chinese websites shortly after the flight.Chinese President Hu Jintao confirmed the test flight later to US Defense Secretary Robert Gates who happens to be visiting the country amid concerns that the Chinese are modernizing and upgrading their technology (especially as their military budget in 2010 stood at $78 billion).However, the timing of the test flight was apparently just coincidence and Robert Gates soon commented to clear up the matter:I asked President Hu about it directly, and he said that the test had absolutely nothing to do with my visit and had been a pre-planned test.
