Unique Gaeltacht event explores plans to celebrate Cultural Heritage in 2018

first_imgGaeltacht artists, arts activists, funding representatives and Irish and international speakers attended a two-day seminar exploring the developments in the Arts and Heritage in Ghaoth Dobhair.The seminar entitled ‘Oidheacht Bheo – Trí shúile na nEalaíon’ was held in Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair and Áislann Ghaoth Dobhair in north-west Donegal on December 7th and 8th.The unique event, organised by Ealaín na Gaeltachta with support from Creative Ireland and the Heritage Council, gave arts and heritage organisations the opportunity to explore ideas and thinking within the realm of ‘Cultural Heritage’. 2018 marks the European Year of Cultural Heritage and this seminar aimed to explore creative ways to celebrate our cultural heritage, provide a platform to share good practice in creating exciting projects and provide opportunities to create national and international networks.Guest speakers included Eithne Verling, Director of the Galway City Museum, Darach Mac Con Iomaire, director, and theatre maker, and International guest speakers from Fryslan (Cultural Capital of Europe 2018), The Basque Country, Scotland, and Wales.The programme of events concluded with a preview of the exceptional stage production ‘Aisling? – An Ród Romhainn’ on Friday evening, 8th December in Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair. A stellar cast of Gaeltacht artists came together in Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair to examine themes of place, identity and community. The performers include Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Seán Ó Flaithearta, Pól Ó Ceannabháin, Méabh Ní Bheaglaoich, Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, Johnny Óg Connolly, Úna Ní Fhlatharta, Caoimhín Ó Fearghail, Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde, Róisín Seoighe, Eoghan Geoghegan and Eoin Mac Donncha.‘Aisling? – An Ród Romhainn’ combines music, song and dance to create a theatre spectacle.
